그것들이 그렇기는 하지만, 우리는 그 문제를 이해해야 한다.

더 많은 사람들을 훨씬 더 높은 수준으로까지 교육을 하는 것은 아주 중요하다.

하지만 우리는 또한 그들을 다르게 교육해야 한다.

문제는 현재의 (교육의) 확대가 근본적인 오해, 즉 학문적 능력과 지능을 혼동하는 것에 바탕을 둔다는 것이다.

수년 동안 학문적 능력은 지능과 하나로 합쳐져 왔고, 이러한 개념이 검증 시스템, 시험, 선발 절차, 교사 교육 및 연구로 제도화되었다.

그 결과, 지능이 높은 많은 사람들이 그렇지 않다는 느낌을 받으며 교육을 거쳤다.
