[영어 문법] 상관접속사(both, either, neither)와 수일치

1. 상관접속사 

상관접속사	의미	동사 수의 일치
1. both A and B	A와 B 둘 다	항상 복수 동사
2. not only A but (also) B  = B as well as A	A 뿐만 아니라 B도	B에 일치
3. either A or B	A와 B 둘 중 하나
4. neither A nor B	A와 B 둘 다 ~아닌

 

Both Sam and Nick are not American. 

Sam과 Nick 둘 다 미국인이 아니다. 

 

Not only Christine but (also) I speak French well.

Christine뿐만 아니라 나도 프랑스어를 잘한다.

= I as well as Christine speak French well. (B as well as A : B에 수일치해야 합니다. ) 

 

Either Irine or Mike likes Korean food. 

Irine이나 Mike 중 한 명은 한국 음식을 좋아한다.

 

Neither Tom nor I am a teacher. 

Tom과 나 둘 다 선생님이 아니다.

 

 

 

출제 포인트

1) 동사의 수일치 관련된 문제가 많이 나오기 때문에 2,3,4번의 경우 B에 맞춘다는 것을 꼭 확인하세요.

2) not only A but (also) B는 B as well as A와 같습니다.

3) either는 or과 함께 쓰고, neither는 nor과 짝입니다.

4) neither A nor B 자체는 이미 부정적인 의미를 담고 있기 때문에 부정문과 함께 쓰이지 않습니다.

 

2. 상관접속사 연습문제 

 

1)  I don't go to gym by bus. She doesn't go to gym by bus, either. 

= Neither I nor she goes to gym by bus.    (neither 사용) 

 

2) John is a good at speaking Korean. Luke is good at speaking Korean, too. 

= Both John and Luke are good at speaking Korean. (and 사용) 

 

3) Bell is poor at using chopsticks. Kelly is poor at using chopsticks, too. 

= Both Bell and Kelly are poor at using chopsticks. (and 사용)

 

4) Sam as well as we was busy practicing playing the guitar. 

= Not only we but (also) Sam was busy practicing playing the guitar. (not 사용)

 

5) Sally is not only beautiful but also charming. 

= Sally is charming as well as beautiful.  (well)
