이는 전화기와 이메일을 끈 채, 여러분 자신의 우선순위에 있는 창조적인 작업을 위해 매일 많은 시간을 차단한다는 것을 의미한다. 나는 성공하지 못한 작가였다.

이런 전환을 하는 것이 나를 생산적인 작가로 만들었다.

하지만 하루도 빠짐없이 내가 기사나 블로그 게시글 혹은 책의 한 챕터를 쓰려고 앉을 때마다 반드시 일련의 사람들이 내가 그들에 게 답장을 주기를 기다리고 있었다. 그것은 쉽지 않았고, 특히 “‘2시간 전에’ 이메일을 보냈어요...!”라고 시작하는 전화 메시지를 받을 때는 아직도 쉽지 않다.

당연히, 이러한 접근 방식은 다른 사람들의 기대와 그들이 여러분에게 가하는 압박을 거스르는 일이다.
